It also makes you healthier, happier, and can help you have a great chance of no or little increase of weight. The key is to exercise regularly and gradually increase the time and quantity of exercises. Beginners should start with 30 minute sessions, 3 times a week – BUT, this is just a rule of thumb. If simply starting to take a walk every day is a good start for you, then start with that. As you become familiar and more confident with your exercises, increase the duration to 45 minutes, 5 times a week.
2. Strength Training is Also Highly Recommended
What comes to mind for most people when we talk about exercising? aerobics or cardio exercises. But, there is a kind of exercise which has more advantages for weight loss – the strength training exercises! Examples are weight lifting and body building. Does that bring to mind huge, gross, shiny bodybuilding contestants? Well, we’re not talking about that level of strength training, friend!
However, exercises that promote the use of large muscle groups (like your thighs or back) encourage weight loss. Even just a few reps of squats or bench press reps can help you.
3. Using a Food Journal
This is one that almost everyone overlooks, but it’s instantly powerful. Simply paying attention to what you put in your mouth will have a drastic effect on what you eat.
Record your daily diet in a food journal so that everything you eat is accounted for. You can do this with a pen and pad, or even get an App for your phone that helps you track this. Write in your journal everything that you eat for a day. This is probably best to do it first: just start keeping track. Once you have this habit established, you can start jotting down the number of calories present in each food so you will be able to see the total number of calories your body has taken.
Having this information will make you observe your daily calorie intake and will enable you to control and regulate the kind of foods that you eat. Remember: paying attention = Power! (with a capital P!)
4. Reset Your Weight Loss Goals
Your objective must not only be to lose weight – Losing weight is a continuous process which you need to maintain. Losing weight is not just done by calculating and controlling your calorie intake… this isn’t just a math exercise! It’s about your LIFE, your future, your health, and you HAPPINESS – get emotionally involved!
It also involves transformation of your lifestyle and eating habits. Healthy eating habits and exercise should be a part of your system. Therefore, focus on improving your lifestyle for a healthier living instead on the amount of food you should eat.

6. Get all the support you can get
Encouragement and support is a major help for attaining better results in losing weight – You are NOT alone, my friend! Throughout the process you may feel bored, discouraged, and willing to give up, but you need these kinds of people to give you inspiration and back-up for you to carry on.
Believe in the power of support that you receive from your family and friends and do not be afraid to talk about your dreams and aspirations of losing weight!
7. Start slow, plan big
There is massive, massive power in taking tiny steps each day. You should begin with changing your lifestyle, eating habits, and finding some way to exercise that you can actually keep up with. Radical change will not happen overnight, but it will FEEL like radical change in a very short period of time if you develop the right habits.

7 Little-Known Natural Weight Loss Aids: Pros & Cons

The celebrities that are constantly paraded around in front of us seem to have it made, don’t they? But, the truth is that while many of them are thin because of drugs and other dangerous behavior, many celebrities take advantage of the following 7 natural weight loss aids to lose weight quickly. But are they healthy? Read on to find out…
When former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was recently interviewed, he said obesity is the top two leading cause of preventable deaths in the U.S. resulting in a mortality rate of 300,000 deaths per year. Industrialized countries all over the world are affected by the serious problem of obesity.
This is a short and concise evaluation of the most usual “natural” weight loss aids. It is obvious that the more calories you burn and the lesser calories you consume would naturally result to weight loss. Many people find it hard to lessen their calorie intake much less do activities to burn calories to reduce their weight. So many people look for quick ways to get rid of the extra pounds, and they can be found in some drug stores or any health-food store.
1. Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA)
HCA’s introduction to the market caused much hype. It is found on the rind of a native Indian fruit, the garcinia cambogia.
Mechanism of action: HCA prevents a necessary enzyme in converting the excess carbohydrates and protein into fat. It induces fat burning and increases the efficiency of the glycosynthetic function of the liver. An increase in the glycogen levels will transport signals to the brain relaying information of fullness and satisfaction.
Dosage: 500-1000 mg before every meal.
Safety: HCA is not dangerous.
Bottomline: I did not experience any major change in my body when I took HCA. However, during my research I found out that it seems to have worked for other people.
2. Chromium Picolinate
There are conflicting results with studies regarding chromium picolinate. Some studies show that it encourages loss of fat and gain of muscle mass but other studies show that it has no such effect on our bodies.
Mechanism of Action: Chromium picolinate enhances insulin sensitivity increasing nutrients delivery to the cells for a more efficient metabolism.
Dosage: 200-800 mcg a day.
Safety: it has no harmful effects when taken at the recommended dose.
Bottomline: Chromium picolinate seems to have some effects on certain people. Contrary to its claims, you will not resemble body builders or models with its use.
3. 5 Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP)
5-HTP is not the same as amino acid tryptophan banned in the United States. A poisoned batch of tryptophan caused eosinophilia myalgia on people, 5-HTP is a new pricey compound in the tryptophan to serotonin conversion.
Mechanism of action: 5-HTP has the effect of increasing serotonin production which in turn sends the feeling of fullness and satisfaction to our brain.
Dosage: 300 mg thrice a day, 30 minutes prior to each meal.
Safety: Since 5-HTP increases the production of serotonin, you should avoid using it with other drugs that affect serotonin metabolism such as Redux or Prozac.
Bottomline: Some studies conducted with people who use 5-HTP illustrate that it stimulate loss of weight. It is costly so not many people may opt to use it until the price is lowered. More 5-HTP studies conducted would be especially helpful for those who are interested to use it.
4. Ephedra (aka Ma Huang)
Herbs are usually included when talking of natural weight loss aids. The herb Ma Huang was used in China long before it was discovered in the West where it used the herb to produce an asthma drug ephedrine. If we take this together with caffeine or guarana it results in the most potent natural weight loss aid found in the market.
Dosage: 300 mg of ephedra OR 20 mg of ephedrine taken with 900 mg of guarana or 200 mg of caffeine 1 hour before every meal.
Mechanism of Action: Ephedrine taken with caffeine encourages thermogenesis as an ó3 agonist. It binds to receptor sites of fat cells and stimulates the breakdown of fat to generate energy. It also discourages lipogenesis or the conversion of carbohydrates into fat.
Safety: You may notice some side effects when you begin using Ephedra or Ephedrine. Some of the common side effects include palpitations, trembling, increase in sweat production, hot flushes, chills, nausea and sometimes vomiting is experienced. Usually these side-effects will lessen in a few weeks time as you get used to the product. In the previous year, some teenagers overdosed with improper use of this substance. There is no need to be fearful of using this product, because if you use it properly and according to its instructions ma huang and ephedrine are safe. However, this substance is contradicted for those who have a heart or cardiovascular condition, high blood pressure, angina, prostate problems or thyroid disorders.
Bottomline: Ma Huang or Ephedrine with caffeine or guarana is an effective means of weight loss though it may cause some undesired side-effects.
5. Pyruvate
Pyruvic acid results from metabolism of glucose. It is unstable in its natural state but if you combine it with sodium, potassium, magnesium or calcium you get a stable salt called pyruvate. Pyruvate will most likely become a better known natural weight loss aid in the future.
Mechanism of action: Pyruvate facilitates utilization of fat in our bodies and is shown to have increased the rate of metabolism in animals.
Dosage: divided doses of 6-10 gm a day taken with meals.
Safety: Pyruvate is a natural part of metabolism in humans so it is considered safe. High doses though may cause diarrhea and borborygmus.
Bottomline: Pyruvate is still new to the market. Aside from being advertised as a weight loss aid it is also marketed as an ergogenic aid useful for athletes in increasing their endurance.
6. L-Carnitine
The L-carnitine dipeptide comes from the amino acids lysine, methionine and vitamins B6, C, B3 , the iron mineral and is produced in the liver. It is a famous ingredient in almost all weight-loss products found in stores.
Mechanism of action: It is used in the transportation of fat into the mitochondria for burning it to produce energy.
Safety: It is considered a natural weight loss aid because it forms part of the normal metabolic process in our body so it is safe. However, if you take it in high doses you may experience diarrhea.
Dosage: 1000-2000 mg per day in divided doses with meals.
Bottomline: It is not certain that an excess of carnitine than what is normally required by our body will cause an increase in the fat burned if there is no carnitine deficiency to begin with. What is important though is to ensure that you have adequate carnitine intake if you want to lose weight. Whether or not you will experience weight loss is not guaranteed.
7. Chitin
Chitin is produced from shellfish. It is an amino polysaccharide which is neither absorbable nor a digestable fiber.
Mechanism of action: When you use take it with meals, it binds fat preventing fat absorption. Any type of fiber will prevent fat absorption to a certain extent. However, Chitin seems to be the most effective in doing this, binding fat 10 times its weight as compared to any other kind of fiber.
Dosage: Take 1-2 grams of Chitin with a high fat meal.
Safety: If you are allergic to shellfish, you should avoid taking Chitin.
Bottomline: Chitin is useful if you eat meals with high fat content. On the other hand, taking high fat meals is the reason why people experience weight problems in the first place. Chitin will not bind the calories produce from carbohydrates, proteins as well as alcohol.
Chitin is then useful if you indulge yourself in a high-fat meal occasionally. You have to remember that to effectively shed some pounds permanently, aside from taking these natural weight loss aids you should accompany it with lifestyle modifications which means being careful of the types of food you eat.
